The respiratory therapist will evaluate, treat, and care for individuals with breathing and/or cardiopulmonary disorders. This includes managing ventilators, collaborating with medical-home nurses on treatment plans, and assisting non-medical home nurses with respiratory care and treatment as requested by the Director of Nursing. This role requires effective communication, strong attention to detail, proven organizational and documentation skills, the ability to generate clear, concise reports, and enthusiasm for working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.

This position is primarily first shift, Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional second shift hours may be necessary for education and appointments. 

The base pay rate is $35 per hour. Pay rate is based on experience. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide education for employees on respiratory devices, care, treatments and pulmonary status. 
  • Complete respiratory treatments for individuals. 
  • Manage treatments and orders in ICare EHR.
  • Communicate with pulmonologists regarding settings, care, and treatment for individuals who are recommended by the medical director as part of the treatment team.
  • Assess status changes for individuals with respiratory concerns and collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager, and Medical Director.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, supervisors, and hospital representatives prior to trach placement.
  • Assist nurses with respiratory medications and treatments for individuals with respiratory concerns.
  • Assist in transporting individuals with trachs to medical appointments and community outings.
  • Perform trach care for individuals in the medical homes who have a trach placed.
  • Change circuits weekly or as necessary and as requested by the Director of Nursing or Medical Director for individuals with ventilators.
  • Order supplies for those needing a ventilator and trach with the DME company.
  • Participate in the treatment plan with the Residential and Health Services team. 
  • Provide updates as needed to both the medical and program team.
  • Assist with regulatory requirements, 6400 and 6100.
  • Participate in the admission process when needed.
  • Attend ISP meetings when applicable.
  • Develop Health Care Concerns for individuals with trachs and ventilators. 
  • Travel across community homes and program locations in Erie, Crawford and other counties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will meet these qualifications-

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • One of the following:
    • Master's degree or above from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism

                   OR

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism 

                    OR

    • Associate's degree from a CoARC program and four (4) years of experience working directly with individuals with an intellectual disability or autism. 
  • Experience with respiratory conditions, i.e., trach care and ventilators.
  • Above-average verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on effective and professional communication.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, Internet and other agency-related applications. 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must be a licensed respiratory therapist in the State of Pennsylvania, including the education and experience listed above and maintain a current license.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain all in-service and training requirements as required by regulatory compliance that meet the requirements for this position.
  • Obtain all clearances as required to meet regulatory compliance. 

This is an in-person position in Erie, PA. There is no remote option for this role.
