Job Summary: This position advances the Erie Zoo’s mission and impact through brand awareness, storytelling, promotion, social media engagement, and signature seasonal events. The Marketing & Events Supervisor is responsible for ensuring effective marketing and social media messaging both internally and externally for the Erie Zoo and the Flo Fabrizio Ice Center. This position reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Public Relations & Special Events.

 

  • Develops, leads, and executes the zoo’s social media policy including integration of AZA best practices, tracking of content and engagement analytics, response to public comments on Erie Zoo official social media accounts, generating and posting planned and ad hoc content, and promoting the zoo’s message of conservation.
  • Cultivates strong working relationships with staff and community partners.
  • Continuously aligns with zoological accrediting bodies’ requirements/recommendations for website design, accessibility, and serves as the primary in-house website manager.
  • Develops and employs strategy to increase brand awareness and impact through marketing and promotion of Erie Zoo.
  • Regularly assesses the effectiveness of marketing, outreach efforts, and social media; adjusts strategy accordingly in collaboration with the Sr. Manager of Public Relations & Special Events.
  • Collaborates closely with the Animal Care team to obtain photo and video material to use for social media posts, marketing materials, and other communications materials.
  • Backs up and organizes all digital materials for organization-wide use.
  • Assist in donor relations and support the primary donor relations team through supporting Development, relations, and the creation of materials to promote and cultivate relationships with zoo donors.
  • Designs Erie Zoo educational, fundraising, promotional materials including membership mailers, bulk emails, and visual representations of the Erie Zoo and Flo Fabrizio Ice Center.
  • Attends community outreach events and programs with other Erie Zoo staff and/or volunteers.
  • Willingness to become a trained animal handler to share select animal ambassadors with the public.
  • Conducts research and engages in networking to establish new mission-based media opportunities.
  • Ensure that Erie Zoo is meeting or exceeding zoological accrediting bodies’ requirements for campus signage, website design, and social media postings.
  • Actively work with the Sr. Public Relations & Special Events Manager to assist with promotion and execution of events, filling in where needed.
  • Event coordination: Assists in the end-to-end planning, set-up, and execution of signature seasonal events, trade shows, and community events. Works alongside the Lead Manager of PR, Marketing, & Events for fundraising events.
  • Campaign support: Help conceptualize and deploy multi-channel marketing campaigns across social media platforms and email marketing tools.
  • Marketing and promotions: Create promotional materials, write and coordinates monthly member e-newsletter, and works with the Sr. Manager of Public Relations & Special Events for yearly marketing campaigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Education/experience: 

 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, or Communication
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in social media marketing, marketing, or communication.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Event planning experience is helpful

 

Work Environment:   Office, on Zoo grounds, possibly traveling to off-ground presentations
