Housing Advocate/Mental Health Caseworker

Crawford County Mental Health Awareness Program, Inc. (CHAPS) is seeking a full-time Housing Advocate/Mental Health Caseworker. Duties include providing case management, housing search, and life skills services to persons who are experiencing homelessness or are near homeless. This position involves assisting participants with the identification of and connection to needed community services and resources, including permanent housing.

Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the human service field. Applicant must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Must have the ability to communicate well, orally and in writing and possess basic computer skills. Ability and willingness to work in consumer’s home, community and with other staff to provide support based on the individual needs of the participant. Must possess the ability to set priorities and problem solve, as well as complete tasks with minimal supervision. Applicant must be trustworthy, compassionate, and empathetic.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for participants by providing support and resources related to housing issues, including Fair Housing regulations.
• Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop tailored action plans.
• Facilitate negotiations between tenants and landlords, ensuring compliance with landlord-tenant laws.
• Provide crisis intervention and support in situations involving housing instability, mental health, or addiction.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of participant interactions and progress.
• Collaborate with social service agencies to enhance service delivery and participant outcomes.
