The YMCA of Greater Erie is actively seeking a full-time Program Director - Healthy Living. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Program Director of Healthy Living supports the YMCA's mission by leading high-quality wellness programs that promote health, well-being, and member engagement. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and growth of wellness initiatives, including group exercise, personal training, wellness coaching and health-focused programs.
The role ensures a welcoming, inclusive environment where members feel supported in achieving their health goals, while also driving program participation, retention, and revenue.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with the hourly pay rate of: $17.10-$25.65/hr. contingent upon experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, implements, and oversees wellness programs including group exercise, personal training, and health initiatives aligned with YMCA standards.
- Drives member engagement and retention by fostering a welcoming, inclusive wellness environment and building meaningful relationships with participants.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises wellness staff (e.g., personal trainers, group exercise instructors); ensures certifications and continuing education are current.
- Leads strategies to grow personal training revenue and wellness program participation.
- Designs and promotes innovative health and well-being programs that meet community needs.
- Ensures safe operation of wellness areas, including fitness equipment and program spaces.
- Develops and manages program budgets; monitors and forecasts revenue streams including personal training and specialty programs.
- Designs and implements new health and wellness programs and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Tracks and evaluates program outcomes, member engagement, and participation trends to inform improvements.
- Collaborates with membership teams to support onboarding and member wellness journeys.
- Builds partnerships with community health organizations to expand impact and reach.
- Promotes programs through marketing efforts, member outreach, and events.
- Responds to member feedback and supports a high-quality member experience using YMCA service standards. (Listen First)
- Assists in fundraising, health initiatives, and community special events aligned with YMCA priorities.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, participants and community organizations to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Ensures compliance with all safety protocols, certifications, and applicable regulations. Such as compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Human Services,Public Health, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-5 years of progressive experience in program management, staff supervision, or YMCA leadership preferred.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
- Minimum age of 21.
- Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, program development, and budget management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.
- Completion of required YMCA trainings within 30 days of hire (Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/AED, First Aid, etc.).
- Ability to pass background screening and any required pre-employment checks.
