At Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, every box moved and every delivery completed helps feed families across our 11-county service area. The Warehouse Worker/Driver plays a vital role in ensuring food is handled safely, stored properly, and delivered accurately to our partner agencies.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys active work, teamwork, and making a tangible difference in the community each day.
What You’ll DoWarehouse Operations
- Accurately pick products from dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage to fulfill agency orders.
- Check orders filled by other staff for accuracy and wrap completed pallets as needed.
- Load and unload products from delivery trucks.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with physical inventories.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse environment.
- Assist with moving and placing furniture and equipment as needed.
Dock & Distribution Support
- Stage orders for delivery trucks, agency pickups, and Second Harvest programs.
- Direct incoming non-CDL vehicles (member agencies, food drives, general donations) to appropriate dock areas.
- Assist with loading agency vehicles and ensure required pickup procedures are completed accurately and timely.
- Support daily inspections of perishable products to ensure quality and food safety standards are met.
- Assist with distributions held at the Second Harvest facility as needed.
Driving & Pickups
- Drive company vehicles to pick up donations and deliver agency orders as needed.
- Follow all state, federal, and organizational vehicle safety guidelines.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and safe operation.
General Responsibilities
- Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service when interacting with agencies, donors, volunteers, and visitors.
- Follow safe food handling procedures as required by Feeding America, USDA, Department of Health, and other regulatory partners.
- Safely operate material handling equipment, including jitneys and hand jacks.
- Assist volunteers and serve as backup support when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum of two years of warehouse or related experience.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in order fulfillment.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while also working independently.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to operate warehouse equipment (training provided if needed).
- Flexibility to work beyond regular hours when necessary.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Certificates, Licenses & Requirements
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- Jitney Driver License.
- Must pass DOT medical examination.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to work in cooler and freezer environments.
Work Environment
- Warehouse setting with moderate to heavy noise levels.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to wet, humid, cold, or freezer conditions.
- May work near moving mechanical parts and elevated areas.
