About Hope on Horseback
Since 1981, Hope on Horseback has enhanced the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of children and adults with special needs through Equine-Assisted services. Our program carefully matches certified instructors, trained volunteers, and therapy horses to serve individuals with varying degrees of physical and cognitive ability. We partner with regional institutions like Gannon University, the Crime Victims Center of Erie County, the Barber Institute, and the Erie Community Foundation to deliver high-impact programs, including therapeutic riding and our new Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) initiative.
Position Summary
Hope on Horseback is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead and advance the organization’s purpose and visibility. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing daily operations, fiscal management, fundraising and community outreach, ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs.
Qualifications
Required: Proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or therapeutic setting
Background check and PA and Federal Clearances required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Organizational and project management skills
Reliable transportation.
Heavy lifting not required, but classes are held in barns and outdoor arenas that may require walking on uneven surfaces.
Preferred:
Knowledge or experience in Equine-Assisted services or therapeutic riding
Experience in social media and IT services.
Familiarity with nonprofit governance and operations
Experience with fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing
Budgeting and financial management knowledge
