Program Specialist The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Erie County has been providing mental health education to the community for over 35 years. The agency is in search of a Program Specialist that utilizes their care and concern for people and their families with mental illness to help fulfill the agency’s mission.

Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or a related field

Experience: Related work experience in nonprofits or a mental health field. Public speaking experience required. Teaching experience a plus.

Reports directly to the Executive Assistant and Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

· Displays concern for persons with mental illness and respects client confidentiality.

· Recruits and schedules stipend employees or interns to instruct educational programs.

· Organizes community presentations, and programming, such as Mental Health First Aid and Exploring the Arts.

· Facilitates NAMI programming in a group settings.

· Provides content for mental health presentations and support groups.

· Instructs mental health presentations for businesses, schools, social service groups, and nonprofit agencies throughout Erie County.

· Represents the agency in several taskforces, coalition, and social service groups.

· Provides resource information to potential clients and community members. Provides office assistance such as answering phones with clients, as needed, in the office.

· Assists with Fundraising.

· Represents NAMI at table events.

Skills and Abilities:

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to multi-task various projects and deadlines.

· Ability to produce internal documents, collateral materials, and electronic communications.

· Ability to create program curriculums, lesson plans, and PowerPoints.

· Ability to collect and input program survey data.

· Demonstrated consultative approach with ability to quickly analyze situations, identify and troubleshoot problems, recommend solutions, and use good judgment in making decisions.

· Work is performed in a busy office setting. Programming often occurs off-site.

· This position may require some occasional evenings and/or weekends in conjunction with special events, and promotions.

· Capability to perform general office duties such as completing billable reporting paperwork, filing, etc...

· All other duties assigned by the Executive Director or Program Coordinator.
