The Communications Manager plays a key role in shaping how Erie Catholic School System communicates with its families, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, Marketing, and Enrollment, the Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating and producing clear, consistent, and timely communications across the system and its schools.

This position focuses on content and copywriting execution: drafting, editing, and distributing content that reflects the mission and values of Erie Catholic. The Communications Manager will collaborate closely with school principals, office staff, and central office departments to ensure alignment and quality in all internal and external messaging.

Key Responsibilities

Internal and Family Communication (50%)

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute consistent communication templates, including family newsletters, announcements, and updates.
  • Support school principals and administrative teams in creating and refining regular communication to families and staff.
  • Manage the editorial calendar for school and system-wide communication to ensure timely and coordinated information flow.
  • Draft and edit letters, updates, and announcements from school and system leadership.

External and Media Communication (20%)

  • Draft press releases, event announcements, and statements under the direction of the Vice President.
  • Support the coordination of media requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Assist in the development of talking points, remarks, and external correspondence that reflect Erie Catholic’s brand and voice.

Crisis and Emergency Communication (5%)

  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of urgent or sensitive communications, ensuring clarity and tone alignment.
  • Serve as a first-line drafter for crisis messaging as directed by the Vice President.


Brand and Consistency (5%)

  • Ensure all communications adhere to Erie Catholic’s brand standards, tone, and values.
  • Help identify opportunities for improved clarity, consistency, and reach across all communication channels.

Collaboration and Support (10%)

  • Partner with Marketing and Enrollment teams on campaigns, website updates, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Attend key school and system events to support communications coverage, photography, and message collection as needed.
  • Maintain internal communications archives and content repositories for system use.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or related field required.
  • 2–4 years of professional communications experience preferred, ideally in education, nonprofit, or corporate environments.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfort working collaboratively across departments and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital communication tools (email platforms, CMS, basic design tools, etc.).
