Part-Time | $30,000 annual salary | No benefits

As a part-time position, 20 hours per week will be expected, with a review of the requirements after six weeks of employment. A minimum of six office hours per week will be required. At least three of those hours will be during class times in the evenings. Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 7:30. Daytime classes take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Many of our activities require after business hours, including weekends. Additional responsibilities may occur as our programs are open to change depending on client interest and availability.

About Hope on Horseback

Since 1981, Hope on Horseback has enhanced the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of children and adults with special needs through Equine-Assisted services. Our program carefully matches certified instructors, trained volunteers, and therapy horses to serve individuals with varying degrees of physical and cognitive ability. We partner with regional institutions like Gannon University, the Crime Victims Center of Erie County, the Barber Institute, and the Erie Community Foundation to deliver high-impact programs, including therapeutic riding and our new Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) initiative.

Position Summary

Hope on Horseback is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead and advance the organization’s mission. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing daily operations, fundraising, strategic planning, fiscal management, and community outreach, ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and Donor Relationships: Develop and execute fundraising strategies, build donor relationships, and seek grant opportunities.
  • Board Relations: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop strategic plans and report on organizational performance.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage the organization’s budget, accounting practices, and financial planning.
  • Program and Staff Development: Supervise staff and volunteers, support instructor certification, and maintain program quality.
  • Facility Management: Oversee maintenance and safety of all equine facilities and equipment.
  • Marketing and Communications: Promote awareness of the organization through social media, public relations, and community engagement.
  • Special Events: Plan and coordinate fundraising and community events.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or therapeutic setting
  • Background check and PA and Federal Clearances required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing
  • Budgeting and financial management knowledge
  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Heavy lifting not required, but classes are held in barns and outdoor arenas that may require walking on uneven ground.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge or experience in Equine-Assisted services or therapeutic riding
  • Familiarity with nonprofit governance and operations

Compensation
