The Erie Philharmonic is our region’s premier performing arts organization, and the Finance Director plays a critical role in ensuring the financial strength and stability that powers our mission. In this flexible part-time position—with the potential for some hybrid hours but requiring regular office presence—you will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, monitor cash flow, prepare reports for leadership and the Board, coordinate annual audits and tax filings, and help refine internal controls and financial systems. Your work will provide the solid fiscal foundation that allows the Phil to bring transformative musical experiences to our community.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Finance Committee and other members of the Erie Phil team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong accounting skills, nonprofit finance knowledge, and the ability to translate numbers into meaningful insights. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute all fiscal activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, monthly reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts, and appropriate revenue and expense recognition of concerts, events, and related activities

  • Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations; maintain banking relationships and oversee deposits, lines of credit, and treasury functions in collaboration with the Executive Director

  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports and insights including year-to-date figures, variance analyses and financial projections to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors

  • Oversee and refine internal controls, risk management, and financial policies

  • Support the Executive Director in the preparation of the organization’s annual budget

  • Record revenue and expense information on a program basis; review program-based income statements with the appropriate staff

  • Work with independent auditors in preparation of the annual audit report and filing of Forms 990, 990-T

  • Oversee insurance matters, including employee benefits

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Five years or more of progressive experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit fund accounting, and FASB standards

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office is necessary, QuickBooks (or comparable accounting software) strongly preferred; knowledge of CRM/ticketing systems a plus (Erie Phil uses Patron Manager)

  • An appreciation for the Erie Philharmonic’s mission and desire to grow its place in the community

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Flexibility and willingness to take initiative

  • Strong discretion with sensitive financial information and ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial staff and board members

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing/sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
