Job TITLE: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Reports to: PRINCIPAL

INDIRECT REPORTS TO: ECSS PRESIDENT AND VP OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

 Position status: FULL TIME,Eexempt

Position Summary:

The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional and spiritual leader within the school community. This role assists the Principal in the daily administration of the school, supports faculty and students, ensures a safe and faith-filled learning environment, and promotes high standards of academic achievement and Catholic identity. The Assistant Principal helps integrate faith into all aspects of school life while maintaining effective operations and a positive school culture.

Detailed job divisions, outlining focus and direct responsibility, between the Principal and Assistant Principal will be confirmed at the start of each academic year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Administrative Certificate or ability to obtain certification. (Applications from out of state candidates within one year of completion will also be )
  • Master’s degree with graduate work in curriculum, instruction, supervision, or another related
  • Practicing Catholic.
  • Demonstrated adherence to the highest moral standards.
  • Committed to the ECSS mission, vision, and philosophy.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and managing multi-dimensional organizations and situations.
  • Experience using data to make informed decisions about student achievement and other data driven needs.
  • Experience conducting informal and formal observations of teachers.
  • Five years of experience as a teacher or administrator in a Catholic school

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:   

School Operations

  • The Assistant Principal may be assigned teaching responsibilities based on the needs/requirements of the school. This would not equate to more than 50% of a regular teaching schedule.

Leadership for Learning – Educational Leadership

  • Assist in supervising curriculum implementation and instructional practices.
  • Support teachers through coaching, observation, and professional feedback.
  • Monitor student achievement data and collaborate on strategies for improvement.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers for instructional planning, classroom management, and student support.
  • Set high expectations for faculty and students.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, school community, and the other system and diocesan schools to ensure that education focuses on the whole person - the physical, moral, social, and intellectual talents of each

Professional and Community Leadership

  • Act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical

  • Knowledge of the ECSS PreK-8 Curriculum and the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools.
  • Knowledge of evidenced-based instructional methods and assessment strategies.
  • Knowledge of effective assessment methods, data management, and school data interpretation.
  • Skill in active listening and communicating effectively orally and in writing, utilizing a variety of communication tools and techniques.
  • Skill in recognizing, employing, and evaluating evidenced-based instructional methods and assessment strategies.
  • Skill in completing teacher and staff professional observations and conducting follow-up meetings to discuss observation ratings and comments.
  • Skill in conducting student, teacher, and/or parent conferences.
  • Skill in leading collaborative work teams and working collaboratively with individuals across the system.

Work Conditions:

  • Required to work in a school environment, including a professional office environment.
  • Required to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Required travel among school campuses, parishes, and sites outside of the Erie area necessitates the incumbent to have a vehicle and valid driver’s license to attend job related meetings, seminars, and professional development.
  • Required to manage all levels of stress.
  • All Erie Catholic positions require on-campus attendance; remote work and flexible scheduling options are not offered.
