Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. The position collaborates with the Construction Manager, ReStore Manager, and Executive Director to provide volunteer services with our builds and ReStore.  Your goal is to help serve more families by building an ever-increasing network for volunteer to support Habitat through volunteer recruitment, training and volunteer orientation, project planning, implementation and supervision of volunteer activities.

Volunteer Recruitment and Management:

  • Serve as first point of contact for all volunteers for the entire organization. Respond to all volunteer requests.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for each of our new home builds and repair projects and the ReStore assuring they are fully staffed and confirmed for each event and each event day.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Manager and ReStore Manager on when and how many volunteers they require, communicate this information directly to our volunteers and through the Social Media Coordinator via our website, email, and social media posts.
  • Work with volunteers individually and in small groups. Assess experience, skills and limitations of volunteers to successfully engage them in meaningful volunteer service.
  • Orient, train, coach, motivate, measure and evaluates and recognize volunteers in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and programs.
  • Acts as liaison between Habitat and the community, including but not limited to:

1) speaking to community and corporate groups to present on the agency history and future programs, needs and volunteer opportunities and 2) ensure that staff are prepared for arrival of volunteer groups and that all necessary tools, resources and materials are readily available and that all staff understand details and expectations.

  • Ensure that volunteer registration at all build/repair sites are established, check-in procedures are followed, and records of volunteer hours are maintained according to established procedures.
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization, including an annual volunteer dinner.
  • Maintain and update volunteer database, volunteer calendar, regular sign-up links, and arrange schedules for different stations where volunteers serve.
  • Complete monthly reporting summaries of volunteer hours and project statuses.
  • Assist with special events and fundraisers such as the golf tournament, organize volunteers.
  • Provide the Social Media Manager with photos and stories of volunteers and their experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, written, oral, presentation.
  • Previous volunteer and in-kind donations experience, particularly in a nonprofit setting preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with an entrepreneurial spirit, representing Habitat and to make on-the-spot decisions. 
  • Interpersonal, translation, and interpretations skills. 
  • Computer skills are essential. Proficiency in Word, Excel, email, Google docs, etc.
